The Brainiac (1962)

 Back in the sixties, K. Gordon Murray bought many Mexican films, dubbed them and sold the movies to America's TV stations who were Jonesing for contact.  This is the period when there were only 3-4 stations per community, and reality TV was in short supply.  The Brainiac is one title.

Starman

 Well, where I am the weather is nice and sunny.  But if you are inside due to crappy weather or some other reason, it is time to watch a movie.

Atomic Rulers

Not any movie but one described as "Earth has had too many atomic tests and the results from them has caused radiation to pollute outer space. The Emerald Planet is aware that the country of Magolia are creating nuclear weapons to unleash all over the world. If this happens, even the Emerald Planet will not be breathable. They send Starman to find the Magolians secret bases and to eliminate them before they try to take over the Earth.". Source.

Film Tourism with Don Dohler

So, I have tried not to become a couch potato during this pandemic, but in the last year or so I became aware of Baltimore film director Don Dohler.  He was also a publisher and many of his magazines and movies are freely available on the Internet Archive.

Over the past couple of days, I watched his horror film called Fiend.

I watched it to see if I recognize any of the locations.  For the most part no, since may scenes were shot at Moray Court.

But I did recognize Popular Grove Church.  I have relatives there.  I also have a photo on Google Earth of the church.

The film was release in 1980 and I was living in the area.

Turner Classic Movies this month

October is one of favorite months to watch TV.  After all TCM, (emphasis on the Classic!) offers a great line up of horror films.  And if that is not enough, how about Godzilla Fridays!

Holy cow!

And for the 31st, invite some friends over for an all night extravaganza, pop some corn, and for heaven's sake, leave the lights on!

Godzilla RIP

Well not exactly Godzilla (ゴジラ or Gojira), but the actor who played the building crunching monster. Haruo Nakjima passed away at age 88.   To learn more about this 60 plus year franchise see the Wikipedia link.

Ray Harryhausen RIP

A true artist. Ray Harryhausen passed away earlier this week.  See his website for details.  I met him briefly at the Monster Bash Conference a decade or so ago, and I am glad to have had the opportunity!

Karloff double feature

Last night I joined a friend to go the movies (remember those) to see the Turner Classics Presentation of Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein.

It was fun to see these films on the big screen!  Both were filmed in 35 mm.  (I wasn't sure of that when asked, I kind of assumed they may have been filmed in 16 mm).

The best thing too, is that I didn't need to drive into Boston or NYC to see these films; they were shown in West Springfield.

A fun evening for sure.
