Olympic Curling

Time to cheer for your favorite team during the Olympics.

Sweden won the Mixed Doubles for the Gold:

Remember ALL Olympians are Champions!

And some videos of some of the matches we have seen in the past.

Now, get on the ice!

Seems our Team USA Curling Teams are now qualified for the Olympics.

Cheer them on.

And see the schedule at this website.

Winter Olympics 2022

Seems to be some travel headaches for winter Olympic athletes.  Since the global crisis, flights to and from China have dwindled making it a a challenge for people to get to the events.

Further, and complicated this year due to the crisis, are the challenges to host such a mega event.

One good thing is that vaccines are required or face a 21 day "layover."

Oh yeah, be sure to watch Curling (photo from 2018, Vegas men's world Championship).

Olympics 2021

Seems odd that the Olympic year is an odd number, but the past year is odd as well.

I want to send a message of good will to all the athletes, their coaches and family as we try to celebrate the Olympics as one world.  Congrats all.

NBC is broadcasting it here in the States.

Breakdancing gets Olympic Status

Can't wait until Paris 2024 when we get to see Breakdancing as a new event!  The spinning and twirling should be spectacular.

Also good news is the subtraction of Boxing and to a lesser degree Weight Lifting. I mean watching people beat the s&*t out of each other is not what I call a sport.  Just like the fools who drive around in a circle in a fast car is not a sport IMHO.

Go US Curling!

Congrats to America's Men's Team in Curling!  Will I see you at Vegas?  We ordered our official sweatshirts to stay warm in the Orleans Arena.

Kjeld Nuis "there isn't any nature ice!"

The other day, Kjeld Nuis and Patrick Roest earned gold-silver for the Netherlands in the men’s 1,500 meters at the Olympics.  After the race, some NBC sportscaster interviewed Gold Medalist Nuis and in his bilingual accent he said talked about his youth and getting on skates.  He also lamented something like this:

"There isn't any nature ice anymore!"

This references the decline of natural winter ice in Europe and forces him to go inside to train.

I can't find the interview on NBC sports and Youtube.  Perhaps some person can upload that important quote?

Curling

What more can I say.  I am fascinated by this sport.  I mean it is something that I could probably do.  Sure I would consistently over/under through the stone, but it would be fun to try.

For more info visit the Olympic page here.

Basic rules  and written ones here.

More

And new this year will be mixed doubles

We got our hats, so go Curlers!

Oh yeah, one more thing, I wish NBC would broadcast more Olympics.  Even their sports channel doesn't do 24/7 Olympics now.  Shameful.

Icarus

Watched an interesting documentary last night called Icarus.  Suggested by the NY Times, it is a fascinating expose in cycling doping that moves into perhaps the largest corruption in Olympic sports. Filmmaker Bryan Fogel is fortunate that Netflix picked up the distribution.  Don't have Netflix?  Try a one week free trial and include this title in your binge watching.

Brazil 2016 headaches

If Sochi worked so can Brazil,  But the summer Olympics is bigger than the winter one, so it will be a challenge.

Read this report from Tico Times (Costa Rica).

Jamaican Bobsled Team

No gold, but we have to give them credit for their Olympic Spirit.  Here is a news report from the Caribbean Journal.

14 February 2014

Curling rocks.

In between shoveling a foot of snow, I watched some more curling on TV.  Check out http://www.sochi2014.com/en/curling

I know they are athletes and all, but I am glad most of them look like normal people and we find individuals all different ages.

Curling is the sport of all ages.  Locally you can check it out at the Petersham Curling Club

I am feeling very Olympic today, how about you?

Who said this?

Think about it.

Ok, I'll tell you.

It is one of my favorite films:  Cool Runnings.

This is a great film and I highly recommend viewing it and do it now, as the Winter Olympics are live of TV.

Good stuff Sanka!

Curling at the Olympics

I can't wait for the Winter Olympics.  I will root for any team in Curling, since that is my favorite event in the winter games.

Go Curling!
