Road Walking on Virginia's Appalachian Trail

Noty quite sure, but according to the maps of the time and my journal, this map may show the location of my picture.

Also called Burton's Pond Road.

Since then, the trail has been relocated to the ridge south.

We were heading to Wapiti Shelter and the ATN reported of a trail relocation and new Wapiti II furthe east.

New Jersey and New York border for AT (2 June 1975)

Back and forth I crossed the state line several times between NJ and NY as I hiked east toward the Hudson River.  Stopped at Unionville NY to pick up some food and mail my dad a fathers day card.  Lots of road walking as you can see from the morning shot toward High Point.

Water was scarce so I had to carry extra water 4 miles to where I camped some place east of Warwick Turnpike.

"Lost the trail twice.  Both times when leaving a road to go on a trail."  See road walking trail as shown on this USGS map.

Quiet Road Trip

Driving for pleasure continues to be a favorite pastime.  So if you are like me, driving the West Side Highway in NYC is not my idea of pleasure.  Rather it is a necessary route for me to drive the Village.

Want to seek a more quiet path?  See this webpage for a state by state selection of quietest routes.

Always interesting to see

When I take a road trip, that is a driving road trip, I mainly want to get from point A to point B in the quickest amount of time.

But sometimes, I travel off the Interstate Highway to see "America". You can see UFO's that way but moving 70 mph doesn't give you much time to stop and investigate.

So get off the super highway and check out Suicide Bridge or a glacial erratic in Central Park.
