 Summer Solstice this year is today, 21 June 2022.

while we didn't visit Stonehenge until August and closer to the Equinox, I suspect it was crazy busy there today.

Happy Fathers Day

A break from the AT (trail was shitty in GSMNP anyway), so today I will show videos from model rocket launches.  The first is Estes Tigress with A8-3 Engine.  Returned nicely to the launch pad.

And this one is called Dragonite and has been a reliable rocket for over a year.

Summer Solstice 2020 (and 1974)

Today is the solstice.  But back in 1974, it was tomorrow, 'er the 21st.

So on the Appalachian Trail my journal for today (20 June 1974) noted it "Rained like hell in the P.M.  got wet of course."  That night we stayed in the Double Spring LT in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park.

The next day, then the solstice, we got up late (9 am), left for Clingmans at 10:30 and arrived at 12 noon.  And of course it was fogged in.

I got my red Crusher hat on.

Summer Solstice and my final Dead show

About twenty years ago, I saw my final Grateful Dead show over in Albany, NY at the Knickerbocker.  Like all the shows, it was tremendously entertaining and proved to be a wonderful day.  I won't make the final shows this year, but I am reminded about my 20 years of shows.  Jerry, RIP passed away later that summer.

Summer Solstice (yesterday and northern hemisphere)

Got back too late to post this last night, but I spent the day with my sister yesterday and explored the glacial landscapes in Central Park. It was fun. For years I had read and watched video about the Pleistocene Ice Age and the impact on North America. So when the trip was decided to visit family in NYC and I was asked what do I want to do, I immediately thought about the glacial features in Central Park.

I "googled" the topic earlier (remember that is the Anticipation Phase of the Recreation Experience) and got psyched. Then we got to the park. It was hot but fortunately for us, the humidity was low (50%). Did I say it was hot?
