Memorial Day Weekend (or Bank Holiday for my friends in the UK)

 Ok, I get it,  you have been in isolation for over a year.  The weather looks nice (well not here in Western Massachusetts),  And you have had your shot.

So If you go out, please remember to wear a mask in crowds. Bring the hand sanitizer and remember to avoid contact.

After all, there are others, who do not practice the same common sense, have not been vaccinated, and just used the porta potty and did not wash their hands!  

Yuck.

Stay safe my friends and be a responsible weekend warrior.

Rachel Carson's Birthday

 While there are many people to thank for the global awareness and sensitivity about our environment, Rachel Carson remains at the top.

Today is her birthday, and take a moment to thank her for challenging the status quo and put our environment first.

If you haven't read her Silent Spring, pick up a copy at your local library or Amazon.

Time to Boycott Tourism in Florida

 Since Governor DeSantis has lifted the facemask requirement, PLUS has banned businesses from requiring vaccinations against Covid-19, it is clear to this writer that the health of people is not important.

From AP "The company says the law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis is at odds with guidelines from federal health authorities that would let cruise ships sail in U.S. waters if nearly all passengers and crew members are vaccinated."

Even Fox reports this:  

"Meanwhile, critics, including local officials, have argued that DeSantis’ approach will put the public at risk and make it more difficult to respond to future emergencies.

In Miami-Dade County, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said a lifting of local COVID rules would ignore the dangers that remain to public safety.

"We are still in an emergency," Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava said at a press conference, according to the Miami Herald. "We have fewer than half of our people vaccinated. We have new variants threatening us.""

So folks, cancel your trips to Florida, but if you must visit the grandparents, open wear your mask, show your vaccination cards to show everyone you care.

Gov. DeSantis apparently doesn't.

 

Trust for Public Land ParkScore

How accessible to parks is your community?  Sure, many towns have parks but frequently these are away from the people.  Further for some there is no access by public transit.  

My town has a lousy score of

Westfield, MA

9% of Westfield residents live

within a 10-minute walk of a park

National average is 55%

Caveat, these data may not include smaller parks in the neighborhoods.

Florida removes mask order

 So, I guess the governor hasn't seen this new case map from Johns Hopkins.  After all this is science from a Blue State.

So tourist can visit without a mask, but I would suggest not to go to Orlando (Disney), Tampa or Miami
