Confusion with Carbon Calculators

So, we are trying to calculate the carbon footprint for the annual Westfield River Canoe Race. Using two online calculators we get two different emission for the same car.  What gives?

For example from

I get this

7,768 lbs CO2 per year

Carbon Footprint Ltd.

I get this
3.73 metric tons: 12000 miles in a USA 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA 1.8, Auto(L4)

  1. I did something similar to this in my Environmental Impact Analysis class earlier this semester. I had to find out the impact of commuters on the environment at WSU.
After doing some surveys with commuters I found that commuters emit roughly 5.5 million lbs of CO2 each year. This was a pretty shocking number to me. It is crazy to think about how much CO2 is released in major cities every day if this is how much is released just from commuters at WSU.
